Use of Waste Materials as Fuels in Cement Kilns

Nick Clewes and Richard Boarder from CCA joined nearly six hundred delegates at the 7th Arab-International Conference on Environment Protection in Cement & Building Materials Industries. AUCBM organised the conference, which was held in Beirut in the Lebanon from 10–12 November 2009.

After an impressive opening ceremony the conference headed straight into environmental issues, with alternative fuels being the main feature in the first afternoon. Five papers covered the full range of issues, each looking at different aspects of the subject. CCA's Nick Clewes presented his paper on Use of Waste Materials as Fuels in Cement Kilns, in which he shared the experience and knowledge of CCA consultants involved in the application of alternative fuels to cement kilns. All the papers made it clear that the solutions offered by the cement industry to the problems of waste are now recognised worldwide.

The second and third day featured presentations by equipment suppliers and reports on projects in the cement industry, bringing all present up to date on the developments in the industry.
