Some current and most recent noteworthy projects that illustrate the capability and accomplishments of the CCA/VAV Consultants include the following:

New Clinker Grinding and Packing Plant - Egypt

The project engineering programme for South Valley Cement Company’s new clinker grinding plant and cement packing department at its Beni Suef plant in Egypt is being managed by CCA. The staged programme to be executed will initially include an audit of the design procedures of the main contractor and inspection of critical items of equipment during their manufacture. The supervision of the construction stages by civil, mechanical, electrical and automation engineers seconded by CCA will follow and lead to the overseeing of the start-up and commissioning stages of the project. CCA will confirm the tests on completion and the performance test attainment on behalf of the client.

Feasibility Study for the establishment of a Lime Production plant – U.A.E

CCA was engaged by a private company situated in the U.A.E. to carry out a pre-feasibility study into the viability of producing dolomitic lime from local raw materials. The scope of the study has included the basic concept of the proposed Lime production plant with respect to raw material suitability and the product qualities to be produced, an outline of the process requirements to establish a plant to supply both local and neighbouring markets. The identification of the key markets, the financial implications to the client and the selection of the optimum production capacity were set out so that the conceptual recommendations and their implications were clearly stated enabling the Client to make a decision about the viability of the proposed project.

Coal Conversion Projects - Republic of Yemen

The Yemen Corporation for Cement Industry & Marketing, Sana’a, Republic of Yemen, is the Government Holding Corporation for the Amran, Al-Barh and Bajel cement factories. The cement factories currently use heavy fuel oil for kiln fuel and YCC has now decided to institute a coal conversion and multi-fuel burning project for all three cement factories as one coordinated project. The project scope of work to be managed by CCA comprises the installation of a coal import facility for ship unloading, transport, storage and dispatch of coal at Al-Saleef Port, for the construction of coal storage and grinding plants at the Amran and Al-Barh cement factories. Tenders for the project were invited from international cement equipment suppliers and contractors to be submitted on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract or ‘turn-key basis’ and in general conformity with the standard conditions outlined by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) for such projects.

Technical Review of Cement Plant Operations - Libya

Al-Ahlia Cement Company invited CCA with its Engineering company to carry out a technical study of their operations at the Souk Al Khamis plant in order to recommend a programme for assistance to improve kiln performance and increase efficiency at the plant. The focus of the study was the two KHD 4-stage preheater kilns each with a design capacity of 1,500tpd commissioned in 1977. An assessment of the potential improvement in production and operating costs that could be realised within the business was made and a ‘road-map’ was established with a recommended programme to follow, identifying appropriate process changes, equipment rehabilitation and upgrading works to be carried out to achieve the enhanced goals. At the same time the current organisational arrangements were investigated at the operating level and proposals made for standardising the definition of tasks and structures throughout the organisation, highlighting both the methodology to be used and the potential benefits of implementation of the proposed changes.
