Dick Boarder – Senior Consultant: Energy and the Environment
Dick Boarder is a chemical engineer who has spent over 40 years in the cement industry working in the UK and overseas in roles up to the most senior operational management; most recently specialising in energy efficiency with specific responsibilities in alternative fuel application and carbon trading.
As a founding member of the ETG (UK Emission Trading Group) he developed methods for measuring and calculating CO2 emissions, and his negotiations with the Government contributed to the development of a trading scheme rather than a taxation arrangement. In particular the opportunity to use biofuels and low carbon waste fuels led to reduced emissions which were traded on both the UK and EU trading schemes.
As the UK representative at Cembureau, the UK cement industry's position on the EU CO2 Trading Directive was successfully implemented.
